A great end for the Norfolk Sportshall U15s team - UK Sportshall National Finals April 2018

A great end for the Norfolk Sportshall U15s team - UK Sportshall National Finals April 2018

A masive well done to the U15 girls and U15 boys at the UK Sportshall Finals in Manchester Sportcity, April this year 2018. It proved to be a very tough and challenging indoor competition for both teams who gave it their all and came away with a combined total of 9 well deserved medals. For those that were 2nd year U15s, it was sadly their final sportshall season so was a good way to end it on a high.  Also a big thank you to an amazing Team Manager Andrea Mayher, who put in all the hard work and training to get these athletes to the UK finals!!!

The Norfolk U15 girls team consisted of Team Captain Serena Grace,  Alice Hill, Eleanor Brown, Ellie Morgan, Eden Harrison, Annie Joynson, & Holly Harrison. Most of the 2nd year U15 girls were also part of the winning National Sportshall team in 2017 and also in 2016, being U13s at the time. So Norfolk had a very strong team indeed, competing against 10 of the best in England, Ireland Scotland & Wales. But despite their valliant efforts on the day to hold onto Gold they just couldn't fight off their fierce opponents from Surrey who snatched 1st place from the Norfolk girls, having lost to them last year. However, in the field event, Ellie Morgan proved to be an outstanding team member by steaming ahead and winning Speed Bounce becoming the National Champion. Norfolk  dominated the track events gaining those vital points, with Serena Grace storming her way to 1st place in her 4lap, being undefeated for the 3rd year running. Amazing!!! Then another magnificent win in the 8lap paarlauf with Eden Harrison and Serena Grace who calmly yet steadily headed for the finish line. Finally, with a nail biting performance from the 4x2 relay girls, (see below) who smashed another first place with last leg, Alice Hill, taking the baton home. Coming 2nd place runners up was worth celebrating on the day, taking home 7 event medals in total, 4 golds & 3 silvers.

Medals awarded to the following below...

Alice Hill - Silver (Vertical Jump) 61 cm

Serena Grace - Gold (4lap) - UK National Sportshall Champion 2018

Ellie Morgan - Gold (Speed Bounce) 97 jumps - UK National Sportshall Champion 2018

Serena Grace (Pictured Below) - Gold (4lap) - UK National Sportshall Champion 2018 & Silver (Speed Bounce) 90 jumps

Alice Hill - Joint Silver (2lap)

Serena Grace & Eden Harrison - Gold (8lap Paarlauf)

Holly Harrison, Ellie Morgan, Eleanor Brown & Alice Hill- Gold (4x2 Relay)

The U15 boys team was formed by Team Captain Alfie Williams , Alex Mandilakis, Joe Williams, Scott Leeder, Michael Langley, Alex Whall & Toby Robinson. They also had a challenging day facing strong and fearless boys from all regions. The Warwickshire boys were just too far ahead of the other teams, for the Norfolk boys to get anywhere in reach of Gold place. They seemed to dominate  the track events coming 2nd and 3rd in most and picking up valuable point in the relays. But team captain Alfie was determined to keep the boys in the top half by pulling out of the bag a huge throw in the Shot of 15.23, almost a metre ahead of 2nd place. 1st year Joe Williams, then jumped his way into 2nd place competing in Speed Bounce. The boys finished in a respectable 6th place. This was a great position to be in out of 11 competitive teams in total, winning 2 medals, a gold and a silver.

Medals awarded to the following below...

Alfie Williams - Gold (Shot) 15m.23 - UK National Sportshall Champion 2018

Joe Williams - Silver (Speed Bounce) 87 jumps

U13 girls joyful Norfolk Team – UK Sportshall National Finals April 2018

T he under 13 girls team, captained by Mary Hill came a very respectable 4th place in the UK National finals in April this year, after having a successful win in the Sportshall Regional Finals in March 2018.  All the girls did amazing finghting hard to retain their regional first place position but unfortunately it proved to be too much of a challenge on the day competing among 10 other strong teams. Nevertheless, the Norfolk girls stuck together with their Team Manager Keith Yellop and showed plenty of team spirit encouraging each other all the way.

Run down of Performance

The Norfolk girls made it through to the obstacle relay final and came so close to achieving a bronze but had to settle for 4th place just 300th second behind bronze.

In the (4x1 lap relay), which was made up of Lauren Ward, Nicole Kaszczak, August Gara-George and Amy Moses the girls did amazing and were all awarded (bronze medals) for their efforts in the final.

Grace Daniels represented the team in the 6 lap time trial and speed bounce where she deservedly won a (bronze medal) in the 6 lap and also a (silver medal) in Speed Bounce jumping a massive 84 jumps.

Luella Brooks produced a huge throw in the shot put with a distance of 9.56m enough to secure a (bronze medal).

Erin Waterfield achieved a (bronze medal) in the vertical jump, jumping a massive 58cm just 2cm behind the gold medallist.

So a huge well done to all the girls chosen to represent Norfolk in the UK final 2018 - who were awarded 1 silver and 4 bronze on the day. Despite coming 4th the Norfolk girls were still singing  their way  out of the venue. lol

Norfolk U13 Boys Summary - UK Sportshall National Finals Manchester 2018

All those involved in the success of Norfolk Sportshall this year recently got together to celebrate and to look forward to the start of what hopes to be an even more successful season to come. At the UK Sportshall National finals in April 2018, the U13 boys team led by captain Conrad Winter, achieved their highest ever finish in the National finals finishing  4th place.  Proud Team Manager Lyndsay Yellop was amazed with their overall performance as a team and how well they all worked together to support each other.

The Ryston pairing of Kit Howlett and Ryan Wood could not be separated in the Speed Bounce competition and both came away with silver medals, joint second place (83 jumps).

Team captain Conrad Winter also jumped well but unfortunately narrowly missed out on a medal in the triple jump by a matter of centimetres.

On the track, the team performed excellently and some smooth baton changes meant that all the relay teams reached the finals.

The star of the team was most definitely Calvin Smith who was rewarded with two medals. He jumped well in the vertical jump (59 cm) to snatch a bronze medal and followed this up with a magnificent run in the 6 lap time trial to casually run home with a gold medal and a UK National Champion title.

The team work and friendship which developed during the squad training surely helped the entire team to up their game and support each other. Congratulations go to all of the team, lots of whom will now move into the U15 age category. The U13 boys came away with 4 medals, 1 gold, 2 silvers and 1 bronze.

There are also so many exciting athletes coming through at the moment so this coming season is set to be even better. It all kicks off in a few weeks with the start of the league competitions on the 13th October at the UEA Sportshall.

Get your ear plugs ready as it is bound to be noisy!!!
